Cyber Security Cloud Developed “Cyneural”, A New Cyber Attack Detecting AI Engine Using Deep Learning

Using over 800 billion data, the new AI engine "Cyneural" is able to detect and analyze unknown threats and high precision cyber-attacks by AI.

Using deep learning, Cyber Security Cloud, Inc. (CSC) has developed a new cyber-attack detecting AI engine "Cyneural". Utilizing it together with the world's leading cyber threat intelligence, CSC has planned to make it possible to detect and analyze unknown threats and high precision cyber-attacks by AI that are difficult to detect with conventional WAFs.

■ Background of AI engine utilization in Web security 〜AI for AI〜
In recent years, the evolution of the Internet and Artificial Intelligence technology has accelerated the rate of cyber-attacks on web systems. Besides, more complex cyber-attacks which uses AI and unknown cyber-attacks (zero-day attacks) are expected to increase in the future.

Cyber-attack defense generally responds by detecting a specific pattern “signature” that indicates malicious access. However, it faces problems such as difficulty in detection or false-positive detection while dealing with complex cyber-attacks which uses an AI or BOTs, or unknown cyber-attacks. For this reason, the cyber-attack defense is also required to utilize technology with flexibility such as AI.

Hereafter, as cyber-attacks are expected to increase further in 2020, it has become an urgent need to respond to complex cyber-attacks which uses an AI or BOTs, and unknown cyber-attacks (zero-day attacks).

■ Development of an attack detection AI engine
In response to this demand, CSC has developed a cyber-attack detecting AI engine “Cyneural” using deep learning by utilizing over 800 billion data. “Cyneural” uses a feature extraction engine that utilizes the knowledge cultivated through research on web access and attack methods. It builds multiple types of learning models to help detect not only common attacks but also unknown cyber-attacks and false positives at a higher speed.

Usually, for an AI to learn attack patterns, an enormous amount of data is required. But the problem is that the attack data is overwhelmingly small compared to normal data (non-attack data). On the other hand, since CSC's cybersecurity services have been implemented in over 5,000 systems, CSC currently has more than 800 billion data, which is increasing day by day. Most recently in July 2019, about 55 billion data is analyzed in real-time to detect attacks per month. Because of this, CSC was able to develop an attack detection engine that uses “deep learning” to allow the AI to learn an enormous amount of data and discover and detect accesses that has a high probability of being unknown cyber-attacks from a variety of accesses.

Furthermore, it is possible to provide more accurate cybersecurity by updating the “signature” by utilizing the world's leading cyber threat intelligence that analyzes the motive, purpose, technique, and behavior of attackers.

In the future, CSC plans to implement “Cyneural” in their cloud-based WAF “Shadankun” and other services to further improve operational accuracy and to respond to unknown cyber-attacks in real-time.
